Meal Prep
Welcome!
My name is Giraffe, and I’m a vegan tattoo artist who loves to cook!
The service: have healthy, plant-based meals delivered to your home. This is not a business or money-making venture, this is a way for me to stay sane and help our community during the outbreak. The cost of the meals is only to offset the expense of buying groceries. If you are unable to pay the cost, free meals are available for people out of work due to the outbreak. We all need to take care of each during this crisis.
The Recipes
Because these meals are made by one person (me!) in a home kitchen, there is not a set list of recipes to choose from. I will try to post pictures of upcoming recipes on Facebook and Instagram, but last minute changes may be made based on what’s available in stores.
I can tell you that all of the meals will be 100% plant-based and delicious! Plant-based means it’s vegan - no meat, dairy, or animal products - and it’s made from vegetables, fruit, legumes, nuts, and grains. No vegan cheese or meat replacements. Just real food!
Allergen Notes
My kitchen is not allergen free. If you have an allergy, I can provide meals that avoid trigger ingredients but I can not guarantee that it is free of cross-contamination. If you have a life-threatening allergy to ANY foods, please do not order these meals.
Strict vegans: my kitchen is not meat-free but there is almost no chance of cross-contamination with non-vegan foods due to the fact that there is never any non-vegan cooking at the same time that I’m working in my kitchen. It is up to you and your personal beliefs to decide if you are comfortable eating food from a kitchen shared with a non-vegan.
Delivery days are Tuesday and Friday. I will try to post in advance what dish I’ll be making for the upcoming delivery. When you order your meals, you will choose the quantity you want delivered for a given day.
If you order multiple meals for one day (for example, three meals on Tuesday) they will all be the same recipe. This is a great option for feeding a family.
On delivery day, I will make the rounds of bringing each meal to its new home. If you are looking to reduce the risk of virus transmission, I can even drop it off outside and send a text that delivery is complete so that we are never within six feet of each other.
How It Works
Go Zero Waste
I prefer not to use single-use containers because we need to protect our planet, even in times of crisis! To go zero waste, provide reusable containers of your own. Here’s how to do it:
Note on the order form that you’d like to provide a container and I’ll coordinate a time to pick it up
Place a labeled container at your front door for food drop offs. Even just a cardboard box is fine if your porch is covered. A plastic storage bin with lid works great if you’re concerned about the elements
Before drop off day, place another clean container with lid in the box
When I drop off your delicious food-filled container, I’ll grab the clean one for next time
Repeat as needed: whenever you pick up an order, put out a clean container!
Containers MUST be:
Labeled with your name and/or address
Water-tight with the proper lid
Thoroughly washed and dried before sent back
My Low-Waste Kitchen
On my end, the meals are almost entirely zero waste. I compost in my backyard, and because these meals are plant-based, every food scrap is compostable! There are occasionally times when I need to use pre-packaged food instead of fresh. For example, canned beans, a plastic container of quinoa, or a paper bag of flour. I recycle everything I can, so very little packaging makes it into the trash.
